About the Event

You are invited to join Ellis Rice for a presentation on the history and significance of Kwanzaa.

This annual holiday was created by Maulana Karenga in the United States in 1966 and has since spread since to other areas of the world. Kwanzaa is celebrated from Monday, December 26th to Sunday, January 1 and celebrates African family and social values:

  • Unity (umoja)
  • Self-determination (kujichagulia)
  • Collective responsibility (ujima)
  • Cooperative economics (ujamaa)
  • Purpose (nia)
  • Creativity (kuumba),
  • and Faith (imani).

Join Ellis to celebrate and learn more!

This cultural celebration is made possible in part by Nevada Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities.*
